A Welcome for Families with Young Children

One of the things our Parish Pastoral Council has been reflecting on is how we can continue to make our churches places where every family feels welcome and at home.

In particular, we want to say something to parents of babies, toddlers and young children:

Please don’t worry if your child cries, wriggles, wanders or makes a little noise during Mass.

Our children are not simply the future of the Church — they are part of the Church today. They are learning how to pray, how to participate and how to find their place within our parish family.

We would much rather hear the occasional cry, laugh or little voice in our churches than have a family stay away because they are afraid their children might disturb someone.

And for all of us, a little patience, understanding and a welcoming smile can make such a difference.

So, families, come to Mass.
Bring your children.
Bring the wriggles.
Bring the noise. Bring the joy!

As Jesus says:

“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them.”
Matthew 19:14
