St. Finian’s Church, Dromin A92 E732

This church was built in 1826. It was famously said that it was built during a remarkably dry summer, ‘between two showers’. A spire was added in 1843. In 1876 major repairs were carried out including repairs to the roof and spire. In 1877 it was dedicated by Archbishop McGettigan. Recent alterations took place in the early 1980s.

It is situated near the ruined monastery of Saint Finian (or Fintan) and alongside an earthen motte. A well-attended Patrún Day or Blessing of the graves takes place in October each year. (See County Louth Archaeological Journal 1943.)
