ILLNESS AND THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS
As we all know, flu is circulating widely in the community and will continue to increase over the coming weeks, according to the HSE.
While the Sunday Eucharist is the foundation of our lives as Catholics and we are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation (Sundays and specific holy days), we are also excused from attending for serious reasons, including illness and especially one that is contagious.
It is important we all take action to ensure we protect ourselves, our loved ones and each other from infection at this time of year when levels of flu and other respiratory viruses are increasing.
So please, if you are unwell, stay at home and join with us via our webcam if you are able. We look forward to welcoming you back to Mass when you have recovered. If you’d like to be remembered in prayer, please contact the parish office. Similarly, if you would like a visit from Fr. Damien, please contact the office to arrange.
We give thanks as well for all those who care for the sick. We are blessed to have them in our lives.
Let’s take of ourselves and each other.
