Baptised & Sent
As the Catholic Church in Ireland continues its synodal journey, the National Synodal Team has published Baptised and Sent, a preparatory document for the Pre-Synodal Assembly taking place on Saturday, 18 October 2025, at the Kilkenny Convention Centre.
This important preparation comes ahead of the first full synodal assembly taking place next year. Rooted in prayer, listening, and discernment, the Pre-Synodal Assembly will mark another milestone in the journey of renewal that the People of God, the Pobal Dé, are walking together in Ireland.
Baptised and Sent captures the fruits of local gatherings held between February and May this year, and the ongoing work of the National Synodal Team. “We are delighted to share this document, which highlights the emerging priorities for the road ahead,” said Julieann Moran, General Secretary of the Irish Synodal Pathway.
“When we began this journey, we set ourselves a simple yet profound question: What does God want from the Church in Ireland at this time? Through prayer, listening, and conversation in the Spirit, a picture is emerging. Whether or not you are a delegate in Kilkenny, we warmly invite you to read it, reflect with others on what the Spirit is saying to the Church in Ireland at this time, and keep this journey in your prayers.” Julieann was also keen to point out that the Irish Synodal Pathway is not only for those attending the Assembly: “The Irish Synodal Pathway is not about a single event, but about building a culture of listening and walking together as Christ’s people. It is a journey for the whole Church in Ireland.
“Everyone is encouraged to participate by engaging with the Preparatory Document, reflecting on its themes at home, in parishes, schools, and communities. Central to the document is a renewed focus on baptism as the foundation of dignity, unity, and mission. Emerging priorities for the mission of the Church in Ireland include a call for greater inclusion, healing, leadership roles for women and laypeople, faith formation, and support for families and young people.”
Julieann continued, “Baptised and Sent is not a conclusion but a step forward – a tool for ongoing reflection open to all. Whether active in the Church or feeling distant, everyone is invited to engage with this document and help shape a more welcoming, healing, and Gospel-centred Church.”
